Screenshot of the day

Postby luciusDXL » Mon Aug 31, 2009 2:06 pm

I've added a new feature on the blog: screenshot of the day. If you have seen or have an interesting screenshot from/related to DaggerXL - whether it's one I've put up somewhere that you really like, a screenshot you took in one of the demos or a screenshot of a texture from your texture pack post it here and it'll be added to the screenshot of the day queue.

You may post 1 - 7 screenshots at once. Only the first ("main") screenshot will be shown on the blog sidebar. In addition make sure to specify the title, which will show up on the sidebar, and a description. When a viewer clicks on the main screenshot thumbnail they will be taken to another page which will show your main screenshot in larger size, with the 6 additional screenshots below. Your description will show up under that. Click on the Screenshot of the Day thumbnail on the sidebar for an example.

Send me a PM or email [ldarkxl@gmail.com]. Title it DaggerXL SoD Submission and include the following:
    * Title
    * Showcase screenshot, the thumbnail will be displayed at 500x373.
    * Up to 6 additional screenshots, these thumbnails will be displayed at 150x112.
    * Description text: what is it? Why is it interesting or cool?

The displayed screenshots will be "thumbnails", the original high resolution shots can be viewed by clicking on any of the thumbnails. All screenshots will be re-hosted, so they will not disappear even if the posters means of hosting removes the originals.

Keep all comments about a given submission to the thread generated for it, in the "Screenshot of the Day" sub-forum.

There haven't been any submissions yet, so I added another one of my own. I'll take new screenshots of different areas regularly to fill in the time in between user submissions. So there's something to see on the blog, even in-between blog posts. :)

Once Demo 2 is out, I may upload an image with my remastered tavern textures. By far, they're my favorite work. :)

I take it we can't comment on individual screenshots and instead must comment on the entirety of the "Screenshot of the Day" album?

Right now that is true, it's something I want to look at fixing. I'll continue to improve the blog over time including this and other things. I'd like to host mods, have sections that highlight the best mods, rate them etc. Maybe even have fun contests, such as such Image of the Week, best themed dungeon, etc. But I do have to work with and find work arounds for limits - it is a free platform after all. :)

I'm considering changing to a forum format, atleast for this project. Maybe a subforum, where each entry would get it's own topic. When you click on the Screenshot of the Day picture it'd take you to the topic instead of the page I have setup now.

I've changed the Screenshot of the Day to Forum format. The DaggerXL blog now thinks directly to the topic for a given Screenshot of the Day. This will allow people to make comments about each individual screenshot set. I also put a thumbnail archive, so people can see and look at older screenshots as well.

I want to keep the Screenshot of the Day a regular occurrence, at least as much as I can. This will make sure that there is something interesting to see on the blog (and forums) regularly even between blog posts and builds. Anyway, obviously there will be submissions by you guys - especially after the demo is released and you can show off textures and stuff. But I'd also like any suggestions for interesting areas in the Daggerfall region - whether it is a cool building, an interesting dungeon exterior, an interesting town interior, etc. - please post them here. After the demo I'll broaden the support beyond the Daggerfall region, which will open the entire game to suggestions. :)

Well, this suggestion will probably have to wait a long time, but I'd like to see some screenshots of dungeon interiors and the interior 3D map system when you get those both working.

Also, I suppose some shots from the desert areas would be nice.
